Stars are brightly shining spheres that spin in outer space. A star is held together by its own gravity. The most familiar and famous star is the Sun, which is so bright and shiny that it makes the daytime light up on Earth. That’s why we wear sunglasses sometimes. At night, especially on a clear night, we can see hundreds or even thousands of stars in the sky. Did you know that all the other stars are bright and shining suns too?
Stars are really big. Did you know that the sun is the biggest object in our solar system? The Sun is bigger than all the planets and you can fit 1.3 million Earth’s inside the Sun. The Sun helps to keep planet Earth warm. That’s why we wear sunscreen sometimes.
Although the stars are very bright, God is even brighter! Back when there was nothing at all, God created the Sun, all the other stars, and the planets (except for Earth) on the fourth day! God said that we would use the Sun and the stars for light and to know the seasons, such as summer, winter, and fall and spring.
[14] Then God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years;
[15]and let them be for lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth”; and it was so.
[16]God made the two great lights, the greater light to govern the day, and the lesser light to govern the night; He made the stars also.
[17]God placed them in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth,
[18]and to govern the day and the night, and to separate the light from the darkness; and God saw that it was good.
[19]There was evening and there was morning, a fourth day.”
